Introducing The Joey Sling Baby Sling
The Making of Joey Sling Baby Sling

When designing the Joey Sling baby sling we undertook months of research in the various design features of baby pouch style baby carriers. We wanted to create a baby sling that provided the ultimate in comfort for baby without compromising on safety. The Joey Sling baby sling wrap around the baby to mimic the safe and warm environment of a womb and in our experience find the baby will usually fall asleep within minutes in the Joey Sling baby sling.
We found there are three key elements in obtaining optimum comfort in a baby sling and these are:
- Depth (or curvature) of baby sling
- Width of baby sling
- Sizing of baby sling
Several prototype baby carriers were made with different depths of pouches, various widths and sizing.
After months of development and testing of the Joey Sling baby sling the final verdict was to create a baby sling with a pouch seat that was not too shallow or too deep and with width that wasn't too wide or too narrow.
The result was of course the Joey Sling Baby Sling.
The pouch depth and curvature of our baby sling has been designed with optimum curvature which provides a snug seat for baby with good support for their back but not too deep in the baby pouch so they are not hanging too low. Baby will be snug in the baby sling and up high sharing the wonderful experience of bonding with mum or dad.

The width of the Joey Sling baby sling was very important to ensure that the baby sling had enough fabric to hold baby safely and allow to nurse discreetly without excess fabric.
Several attempts were made with our pattern maker to perfect the baby sling sizing range to ensure that the Joey Sling baby sling wrap can accommodate most sizes.
Joey Sling Baby Sling Features

- The Nursing Position - from newborn up to 2-3 months.
- The Front Carry position - between the ages of 3-5 months.
- The Hip Carry position - from 5 months up
The information above is a baby sling wearing guide only and the length of time a baby can be worn in each carrying position may vary and is dependant on the individual size and weight of the baby.
Refer to instructions below on how to wear the Joey Sling.
As a guide, the Joey Sling baby sling can be worn from newborn up to 3 years or 16kg (35lbs). As a general rule, it is advised not to wear children in a baby sling beyond this weight due to the child's increased mobility and adventurous nature. By this age children prefer to run and play freely rather than being carried in baby carriers.
The Joey Sling baby sling is manufactured from high quality cotton and includes the following features:
- Built in discreet cotton leg padding in the baby sling for baby's extra comfort
- A unique ambidextrous designed pocket on the front of the baby sling for storing handy items like tissues - this pocket can be accessed by either hand regardless which side you wear the baby sling
- A small loop near the pocket on the front of the baby sling to securely attach the baby's dummy for extra added convenience
- A reversible range with Joey Sling baby slings signature funky look patterns on one side and a gorgeous modern solid colour on the other side. The reversible baby sling range has been designed so all features are on both sides of the baby sling for maximum benefit.
- The single sided mercerised cotton stretch baby sling offers many fashionable solid colours made from high quality fabric. We selected this fabric due to its quality, colour range, durability, weight and the mercerisation process. Mercerisation process improves the strength and lustre of the fabric.
- The Joey Sling purse has been designed especially for extra convenience for mum. 4. Smooth out the Joey Sling and ensure it is perfectly folded in half before putting on. |
5. Place the sling over your shoulder. Ensure the fabric is smooth across your back and evenly distributed across your shoulder. The front seam (centre of where pocket is located) should be aligned with your belly button except in the hip carry position where the seam should be half way between your belly button and hip bone. |
6. This now creates a pouch where your baby will sit. The cotton padding is on the inner layer edge of the pouch (where right hand is positioned) and the pocket is on the front of the pouch (where left hand is positioned). |
