After months of research into various styles of Sling Baby Carriers including the wrap around type of Baby Slings, Baby Pouch Baby Slings, the ring Baby Slings, Baby Slings with buckles, Baby Slings with multiple straps that are limited to only front and back carry – we decided that pouch style Baby Slings ticked off each criteria on our list.

Joey Sling Baby Slings on Safety

While conducting our research into Baby Slings we considered options such as making adjustable Baby Slings. There are 3 ways that we found how to make adjustable Baby Pouch style Baby Slings but none of those methods proved to be absolutely safe for us. Ultimately this means that in our research into Baby Slings we found that there was no practical way of making adjustable Baby Pouch style Baby Slings that didn’t include buckles, rings or open ended fabric.

It is important to note that the probability of buckles and rings breaking are very remote and we personally have only read about a couple of incidents overseas, but nevertheless as parents to two beautiful babies I did not want to make anything that had even the slightest potential of breaking, therefore after careful consideration and months of research we decided to make non adjustable pouch style Baby Slings in different sizes to fit the wearer.

All Joey Sling Baby Slings have triple stitched seams, extra bar tacking at both ends of the seams. Bar tacking is super strong and is commonly used when making jeans. Cotton padding for baby’s comfort when in the hip carry position. This is to ensure that the edge of the sling doesn’t ‘dig’ into babies legs and they have a nice soft area to rest their legs on. The padding just runs halfway along the edges so it provides comfort without the bulk.

We use only the best high quality fabrics made from very high superior quality cotton for all our Baby Slings . You can really feel the difference between Joey Sling Baby Slings and others on the market. We also use a beautiful mercerized cotton stretch drill for our single sided Baby Slings. Mercerizing is a process performed on fabric that increases its strength and provides a beautiful softness and luster to the fabric. We selected a 2% mercerized cotton stretch drill when designing our Baby Slings over the 0%, 1% or 4% that are used on other Baby Slings on the market as the 2% stretch provided additional comfort to the wearer and baby and did not cause any sagging.

Fabric selection was a very lengthy process and one that took months as we literally bought several types of fabrics and made Baby Pouch style Baby Slings with each type of fabric and personally tested each one to determine the most suitable.

Our fabrics are chosen for quality, strength, durability, softness, comfort and style.

Keep in mind when purchasing Baby Slings, yes there are Baby Slings available for $60 or maybe even less but keep in mind what you are getting. Cheap, thin fabric, no extra features, rough surface and very dull looking almost like a potato sack. I wouldn’t carry my baby in Baby Slings like that, would you!

Joey Sling Baby Carriers are designed to carry baby from newborn up to 3 years therefore it is money well invested as you can use it for 1, 2 or even 3 years. The benefit of having Joey Sling Baby Slings is because the fabric and manufacturing is of such high quality if looked after well it will last for many years to come and can be passed onto friends and family.

Most important – every single Joey Sling Baby Slings is quality checked prior to selling to all our customers.

Why is the Joey Sling different to other Baby Pouch style Baby Slings?

The Joey Sling Baby Carriers are different for many reasons. We did our research and we know there are many Baby Pouch style Baby Slings on the market but we wanted to make ours different.

We first researched Baby Pouch style Baby Slings to understand how they work. What makes them so practical and comfortable – what are the key functional design elements.

This is what we found. The most key design elements are curvature of Baby Pouch and width /length of Baby Slings. We made several prototypes with different depths of the Baby Pouch area and different widths, some narrow, some wider and the finished product is what we believe to be the best of the Baby Slings on the market produced to the optimum design for both baby and wearer.

Joey Sling Baby Carriers offer comfort, durability, practicality, convenience and very importantly style! Most of the Baby Slings we saw on the market looked like or felt like potato sacks! I mean just because you are a new mum doesn’t mean you have to look like you don’t care about your appearance or want to look stylish and fun. We aimed at making our Baby Slings stylish, funky and classy! – which has become a signature trade mark of Joey Sling Baby Carriers. Our best seller by far is the very popular ebony swirl which can be found here ‘insert link’ Followed very closely by our own exclusive designer prints here ‘insert link’

Joey Sling Baby Carriers also have their own designer prints. The Forest Cotton Stretch and the Jungle Cotton Stretch exclusively designed for Joey Sling and beautifully screen printed with child safe dyes here in Melbourne. We have had such great feedback on these prints. We have lots of feedback from customers saying they are sick of seeing the tawdry baby pinks and blues on products for mums and dads, while it may be cute on bubs they don’t want to be seen in cutesy pinks or blues but would rather very stylish and classy range of designs and colours.

The forest and jungle Baby Slings fit the bill. They both cater to mums and dads. Although admittedly Dads lean more towards the jungle print and absolutely love it. This means they can look funky and stylish without looking ‘girly’ or like they are wearing a potato sack.

Baby Slings used in my mum’s village in the 60’s and the benefits of Baby Slings

Baby wearing with Baby Slings is a time honoured tradition that stems back many centuries and across many cultures.

For example in my mum’s village when she was a young mother with her newborn son she would wear him in Baby Slings wrapped around her with my brother sitting on her back. This allowed her to get on with her daily chores such as cooking and cleaning.

When discussing this with my mother further she said that it was common practice for all the women to use Baby Slings in the village (50’s and 60’s) and that all the mums would carry their babies in some form of Sling Baby Carriers.

Using Baby Slings was more out of necessity rather than it being popular. What my mum and other women in the village didn’t realize at the time was the great benefits bestowed on the bond between them and their babies. Carrying their babies in Baby Slings especially Baby Pouch style Baby Slings meant they could do their chores but also promote a calmer baby, making them less prone to crying and more content being snuggled up close to mum.

There are many articles and journals available online pertaining to the ‘science’ of wearing your baby in Baby Slings and the benefits of Sling Baby Carriers. There are several experts in the area of baby wearing including the medical field who have done many years of research into the great benefits of wearing your baby in Baby Slings.

If you are thinking about using Baby Slings and not too sure if it’s suitable, just look back into history across many cultures and you will see that Sling Baby Carriers was, and still is a very popular way of carrying babies for its multiple benefits. As mentioned above it’s a time honoured tradition that has lasted many centuries – so start wearing your baby today in Joey Sling Baby Pouch Baby Slings.

Personally I think wearing your baby in Baby Pouch Baby Slings benefits the baby for obvious reasons such as being close to mum and feeling warm and secure and the close interaction experienced. I also believe wearing a baby in Sling Baby Carriers benefits the wearer hugely as it’s convenient. Baby Slings provides freedom to get on with daily activities but more importantly you know you are doing something wonderful for your baby by wearing them close in a Baby Pouch. I also believe by wearing your baby in Baby Slings, the bonding process between baby and wearer is enhanced. In addition and in my experience both baby and mum can be less stressed as Baby Slings provides a great solution to meet both baby’s needs and mums needs – Baby Slings! They’re a definite must in my experience!
